Built on 20 years of crisis-exercising practice.

The problem

Plans don’t make decisions.
People do.

Organisations invest in plans, procedures and crisis teams — then run a tabletop exercise once a year and assume they are ready.

But in a crisis, no one asks whether a plan exists. Leaders are judged on the decisions they make and how they communicate together under pressure.

These are human skills that come from practice, not paperwork. No surgeon, pilot or firefighter stays sharp practising once a year. A crisis team is no different.

And capability doesn’t keep

The team you exercised last year won’t be the team you have.

  1. Year one

You run a major exercise. Everyone learns. Confidence improves.

  2. 18 months on

New leadership. New ops lead. New comms lead. New faces.

  3. Today

Capability has walked out of the door — the report still says you’re ready.

The answer isn’t a bigger tabletop exercise next year. It’s practising that becomes a habit.

How Nest works

Simple to build. Real to run.

Build an exercise in minutes — then watch it play out on your team’s devices like a real incident, in real time, wherever they are.

Your whole exercise on one screen — roles down the side, time across the top.
  1. 01

    Drag, drop, done.

Drag injects onto a timeline — an email here, a radio message there. Clean and visual, with nothing to learn. Build from scratch, or adapt one you’ve run before.

    Built in minutes, not hours.

  2. 02

    Play it for real

Realistic injects play out inside Nest on each person’s own device, in real time — all simulated in the browser, with nothing to install. The pressure’s real; the risk isn’t.

The closest thing to the real day.

  3. 03

    Leave with the proof

Every message and decision is captured in a full exercise report, with a certificate of completion listing everyone who took part.

Evidence you exercised — ready to file.

Who it's for

Every organisation has a bad day.
Few are ready for it.

Nest isn’t built for an industry. It’s for any organisation whose crisis response depends on people — often across teams and organisations — building a shared picture fast, deciding together and coordinating what they say.

  • A crisis would pull in several teams — or several organisations — at once
  • Success hinges on building a shared picture fast and deciding together under pressure
  • Communications matter as much as the operational response
  • The people who’d handle it rarely get to practise together

Frequently asked questions

What is a tabletop exercise, and how is Nest different?

A tabletop exercise is a discussion-based session where a crisis team talks through how they would respond to a scenario, usually in one room and led by a facilitator working from a script. Nest runs the exercise rather than talking it through. Simulated calls, messages, emails, social posts and radio traffic play out inside Nest on each person’s own device, in real time, so the team decides and communicates under something close to real conditions.

What is an inject in a crisis exercise?

An inject is a single piece of information delivered to participants during an exercise — a phone call, a message, a news report, a question from a regulator. Injects are what move a scenario forward: each one arrives at a chosen moment and forces the team to interpret it, decide and respond. In Nest you place injects along a timeline, and they play out on their own as the exercise runs.

Can a crisis exercise be run remotely?

Yes. A crisis exercise can be run entirely remotely, and Nest is built that way: injects reach each participant on their own device wherever they are, so nobody has to travel or book a room. Running remotely also makes it easier to include partner organisations and the people who would join a real response from home or another site.

What do participants need to take part?

Nest runs in any browser on each participant’s own device. There is nothing to install and no equipment to book, so a team can take part from wherever they are.

What do we get at the end of an exercise?

Nest captures every message and decision as it happens and turns it into a full exercise report, with a certificate of completion listing everyone who took part.

Where is our data stored?

Nest stores and processes all platform data in the EU. Stormkestrel is a British company, registered with the ICO and built to the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Nest has no analytics, no cookies and no advertising tools, and your data is never sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers.
